Saturday, 30 May 2026 marked a significant milestone in the journey of Unity for Integration Project (UFIP) as we officially opened the doors of Unity Hub Glasgow -a dedicated community space designed to bring people together, foster inclusion, and create opportunities for learning, wellbeing and personal growth.

The opening ceremony welcomed community members, partner organisations, local leaders, volunteers and supporters from across Glasgow, all coming together to celebrate the beginning of an exciting new chapter for UFIP and the communities we serve.

A Vision More Than a Decade in the Making

The opening of Unity Hub represents the fulfilment of a vision that began over twelve years ago—to create a welcoming space where people from every background could meet, build relationships, develop new skills and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Over the years, UFIP has delivered projects that have strengthened communities, celebrated diversity and supported people through some of life’s greatest challenges. The opening of the Hub provides a permanent home where this work can continue to grow and reach even more people.

A Memorable Opening Ceremony

Guests were welcomed with the stirring sound of traditional Scottish bagpipes, symbolising the coming together of cultures and the celebration of Scotland’s rich heritage.

The ceremony brought together Scottish and Igbo traditions as His Royal Highness Eze Chukwuemeka Ogbu, Eze Ndi Igbo na Glasgow, performed the traditional breaking of the kola nut, a ceremony representing peace, unity, friendship and goodwill.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Paul Sweeney MSP, Guest of Honour, who spoke about the importance of strong communities and the role that organisations such as UFIP play in creating opportunities and strengthening local neighbourhoods.

The event also featured a lively performance by Insubordinate, adding music and celebration to an afternoon filled with warmth, culture and community spirit.

More Than Just a Building

Unity Hub is much more than a venue.

• Dedicated training and learning rooms
• Unity Studio for creative media and digital skills
• A fully equipped community kitchen
• Meeting and collaboration spaces
• Areas for exhibitions, workshops and community engagement

Showcasing Community Impact

Visitors had the opportunity to explore the Hub and learn more about UFIP’s growing programme of activities.

Displays highlighted projects including:

• Unity Summer Smiles
• Cook & Click
• Women’s Wellness Circles
• Community Circles
• Our Stories, Our Streets
• Employability and digital skills initiatives
• Health and wellbeing programmes
• Refugee and integration projects

The event also showcased how the Hub will continue to support New Scots, local residents, women, young people, families and community groups throughout the year.
